Mayoral And Majestic Backing For Annual Charity Cycle Ride

A Harrogate architect practice’s annual charity cycle ride in support of Disability Action Yorkshire has won backing that is both mayoral and majestic.

For the first time the S+SA Architects’ 50km ride - taking place on Thursday, September 12 - will be starting and finishing at the town’s Majestic Hotel, which is playing host to a number of para-cycling teams competing at the UCI World Road Cycling Championships.

And joining those raising money for the Hornbeam Park-based charity are hotel manager Matthew Hole and Harrogate Mayor, Coun Stuart Martin – who is also tackling the Great North Run a few days earlier.

The route – which includes a leisurely lunch stop in Boroughbridge – has been chosen to appeal to riders of all ages and standards including disabled riders.

S+SA Architects long-standing association with Disability Action Yorkshire began more than a decade ago, when it drew up plans for the charity’s Claro Road residential care home.

S+SA Architects director Mark Fisher said: “We are really looking forward to this year’s ride which, as ever, is being held to raise money and awareness of Disability Action Yorkshire.

“It will fantastic having the Mayor and Matthew joining us. We are expecting up to 20 participants on the day, including Jason Richards, who will be undertaking the challenge on a hand cycle.”

Jackie Snape, Disability Action Yorkshire Chief Executive, said: “Once again we are indebted to Mark and the S+SA Architects team for not only organising this annual ride, but for choosing us as the beneficiary.

“Over the years, Coun Martin has become a very good friend of ours and it’s wonderful that he will be riding for us. I’d also like to thank the Majestic Hotel for offering to host both the start and finish, which is very much appreciated.”

Coun Stuart Martin said: “I’m really looking forward to the day where I will be getting to swap my mayoral chain in favour of a bicycle chain. And because it’s for Disability Action Yorkshire I didn’t need asking twice.”

Riders wishing to take part in the sponsored ride should contact Mark Fisher on 01423 856 999,  or via email, markfisher@ssa-architects.co.uk
